Reading documents from SharePoint

Read documents directly from a SharePoint library and process them in Paperbox.

Written by Support Paperbox

Besides mailboxes, Paperbox can also read documents directly from a folder in a SharePoint document library and process them like any other inflow. This is separate from email inflow — use it when your documents live in SharePoint rather than in a mailbox.

Before you begin
SharePoint inflow runs on top of a Microsoft 365 connector — it is not a separate connector. Make sure that:

  • You have a Microsoft 365 connector set up (see Connecting Microsoft 365 Outlook to Paperbox).

  • The SharePoint capability is enabled on that connector.

  • The connection has write access (Sites.ReadWrite.All + Files.ReadWrite.All). Paperbox archives every processed file, so read-only is not enough.

Step 1 — Add a folder

In the connector configuration, click Add folder. The folder picker opens: browse to the source folder in your SharePoint library that Paperbox should read, and confirm.

Step 2 — Choose the destination in Paperbox

Under Target Inbox, pick the Paperbox Inbox. Optionally set a Document Type and Tag (only bundle doctypes are available for inflow).

Step 3 — Set the archive folder

After processing, Paperbox moves the file to an archive folder so the source folder stays a clean queue. By default this is a "Paperbox Processed" folder created in the same library. Use Change to pick your own destination folder (it must be in the same library).

Step 4 — Activate your rule

Set the rule to Active to start reading the folder.

🛑 Paperbox uses a hidden internal marker: a processed file is moved to the archive folder and not processed again. To reprocess a file, move it back to the source folder.
